Register Online for the 3rd International PEEK Meeting

The 3rd International PEEK meeting will be reconvened in Washington, D.C., in April 27-28 2017. The purpose of the meeting is to bring together engineers, scientists, regulators, and clinicians from academia, industry, and government agencies and present leading edge research on advancements in medical grade PEEK technology and clinical applications. The first day of the conference will include focused sessions on regulatory aspects of PEEK medical devices, organized in collaboration with scientists from FDA.

Principal Organizers: The meeting will be organized by Steve Kurtz (Chair) in collaboration with Joanne Tipper (University of Leeds), as well as John Bowsher and Kate Kavlock (FDA CDRH).

Venue: The meeting will be convened at the Cosmos Club, located in the Embassy Row district of downtown Washington D.C.. The Cosmos Club is in walking distance of a wide range of accomodations and the downtown attractions.

Registration: Early bird registration is $375 for professionals, $185 for government employees and students. These fees will expire on February 14. Standard registration is $475 for professionals and $215 for government employees and students. Click here to register online for the PEEK conference.

Accommodations: Based on feedback from last year's meeting we have elected not to reserve a meeting block, because of the plethora of hotels near the conference venue. In particular, we recommend contacting the Fairfax at Embassy Row as the preferred hotel for the conference, as it is located adjacent to the conference venue.

Social Program: The organizers believe that collaborations flourish not only in the formal structure of a meeting but more often in informal social gatherings. To that end, we will be organized a gala dinner on evening of Thursday, April 27. The cost of the social program will be covered in the conference registration fee.

PEEK in Spine: Expert Round Table, Panel Discussion, & Lunch

Exponent Inc. organized a round table at Spineweek 2012 and invited leading, international experts as they discussed whether PEEK Rod systems offer clinical advantages.

PEEK polymer is well known in the spine industry, mainly for its use in implantable cages. However, its recent use in spine rods has played a key role in semi rigid fixation systems, as these PEEK Rod systems offer new options for surgeons compared to traditional rigid or dynamic systems.

This round table began with each panellist providing a brief overview of their area of expertise and a short presentation related to their research in PEEK applications for spine rods. The short talks were followed by a round table discussion and audience questions.

Invited speakers included Dr. Anand Agarwal, Dr. Laure Devun, Dr. Thierry Desjardins, and Giles Larroque. The round table and panel discussion will be moderated by Steve Kurtz, Exponent. The authors have provided PDFs of their presentations for viewing on this site.

This complimentary program was targeted to the Spine Medical Device Industry, Surgeons, University and professionals involved in New Technologies and Product Development.

PEEK in Arthroplasty: Expert Round Table, Panel Discussion & Lunch

Exponent Inc. organized a panel of leading, international experts as they discussed the use of PEEK material in bearing applications and arthroplasty. The meeting took place Wednesday, February 8, 2012 between 12:00 – 1:30 PM at the W Hotel San Francisco – Great Room 2 (At Third Street & Howard; Across from Moscone Center).

PEEK is increasingly considered in arthroplasty for not only replacing metallic components, such as femoral stems, but also as a bearing material in joint resurfacing applications and articulations with cartilage. This round table began with each panelist providing a brief overview of their area of expertise and a short presentation related to their research in PEEK applications for arthroplasty.

The panel is listed below, along with links to their presentations.

1. MIke Hawkins, PhD: Design and Development of the Epoch Hip Prosthesis

2. Jim Nevelos, PhD: CFR-PEEK as a Hip Bearing Material

3. Mr. Richard Field: Clinical Experience of PEEK bearings

4. Erin Keith: FDA Pathway and Preclinical Wear Testing of PEEK Arthroplasty Devices

5. Prof. John Medley: Tribology of Orthopaedic PEEK-on-PEEK Bearings

6. Prof. Marcus Wimmer: The Issue of Wear with PEEK-on-PEEK and PEEK-on-Cartilage Articulations

The short talks were followed by a round table discussion and audience questions. This complimentary program was targeted to Medical Device Industry, University and Research professionals involved in the development or research of arthroplasty devices.
